Cross-border trucking service allows cargo transportation between China and Europe to be faster

Recently, a truck loaded with cargoes left Chongqing International Logistics Hub Park, bound for Europe. After exiting China via a port in Xinjiang, it will traverse Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Romania before reaching its destination, the Netherlands, in approximately 25 days.

The transportation is undertaken by Sino-Europe Trucking (Jiangsu) Logistics Service Co Ltd, a company located in SIP High-end Manufacturing and International Trade Zone. It marks the successful launch of the “third channel” for road transport between Chongqing, a municipality in Southwest China, and Europe, complementing the existing northern and southern routes.

The “third channel” boasts competitive advantages in four aspects. It bypasses the congested Port of Aktau in Kazakhstan, utilizing a ferry across the Caspian Sea from a Turkmenistan port for a smoother passage, and allows transportation of more categories of goods such as energy storage batteries and mobile robots. Moreover, it is two to three weeks faster than sea freight and approximately 40% cheaper than air freight, and is specifically convenient for small- and medium-sized enterprises with smaller individual shipment volumes.

Furthermore, leveraging the high mobility of truck transport, the service is expected to reach into West Asia, the Middle East and Southern Europe.
