The “Love Bridge”, a new work of Suzhou Ballet Theatre (SBT), had its premiere at the Grand Theatre of Suzhou Culture and Arts Centre, SIP on Aug 29, when the Qixi Festival, also known as the Chinese Valentine’s Day, was celebrated.

Inspired by the well-known Chinese legend of “The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl”, the ballet breaks through traditional narrative frameworks, retelling the classic love story from a contemporary artistic perspective. It vividly interprets the timeless theme of “boundless true love, freedom and equality”, adding a touching artistic brilliance to the traditional festival.

This work brings together a world-class creative team, led by internationally acclaimed ballet artist Tan Yuanyuan. It demonstrates excellence in all aspects from choreography to costume and stage designs.

The performance was staged over three consecutive days by three groups of performers showcasing distinct styles, giving the audiences an enriched aesthetic experience.

It is reported that the “Love Bridge” will start a tour to Italy and France on Sept 19.
